Teachers have called upon the government to stick to the November 2020 conditions of service agreement by paying them the minimum US$550 at the interbank rate and to be vaccinated against the coronavirus ahead of the phased reopening of schools later this month. Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Paul Mavima, said teachers should not worry as the National Joint Negotiation Council (NJNC) engagement was in progress. Mavima added that the issue of vaccination will be addressed through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. He said: The engagement is in process. Chimurenga musician Thomas Mapfumo has blamed the youths for being responsible for the crumbling economy. Mapfumo blamed top musicians aligned to the ruling party. The Vanhu Vatema singer said it is those artists that sing praises who aid to the crumbling of the economy because they benefit. He further stated that the silence of the youths from political debates is worrisome and if youths do not speak up they will suffer for the rest of their lives. Mapfumo who is also a social commentator got attacked for his remarks by youths who said that if he is concerned he must be the one voicing up. United States President Joe Biden has renewed sanctions on Zimbabwean government officials for allegedly undermining “Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions”. This comes about a month after the United Kingdom announced its first set of sanctions targeting four Zimbabwean security chiefs since leaving the European Union. The UK sanctioned State security minister Owen Ncube, police chief Godwin Matanga, Central Intelligence Organisation boss Isaac Moyo and former Presidential Guard commander Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe. Meanwhile, in a notice sent to Congress on Wednesday, President Biden also accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of posing “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States.”
